Monochrome, structure and opulence are words that perfectly describe the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) Runway 1, on Tuesday night. Housed in the historical Melbourne Town Hall, Anaessia, AURELIO COSTARELLA, Carla Zampatti, DOM BAGNATO, Gwendolynne, JASONGRECH, Michael Lo Sordo and nicolangela were featured on the runway. Models donned some of their most dramatic couture pieces, with a standout being JASONGRECH’s black number:
Mecca Cosmetics and Kevin Murphy ensured the looks were paired with the perfect fish-tail braids and striking but pared-back make-up, that complemented each piece.
Another stand out was the Michael Lo Sordo collection of pastel trenches and form-fitting dresses. A trend this spring will be pairing stylish outerwear with dramatic under-garments, like this metallic crop below:

The mens collections were channelling the Chuck Bass vibe with bow ties, three-piece perfectly tailored suits and comb overs. It was a step back in time, and one gladly welcomed.
Finally, the Aurelio Costarella collection was the pinnacle of the runway with subdued embellishments, dramatic silhouettes and complementary necklines. The pieces really engaged the couture focus of the runway, whilst still enmeshing the monochrome and structured trends seen by other designers.
